Our Needs
Five years ago, Family Promise was serving 100 families a year from one location. Today we assist over 180 families annually through our locations- yet families are still sleeping in cars or on borrowed sofas because there is a lack of available services. Additionally, in the last three years, homelessness increased by 219% in the West Valley and 129% in the East Valley. In response to these circumstances, Family Promise seeks increase our capacity to serve over 400 families annually.
The building we occupy on Earll Dr. is centrally located and houses our central operations for five location and serves as a day center for families. It offers flexibility and was virtual in being able to adapt our services during COVID. While it has ample room for growth, improvement are needed to maximize its capacity and productivity.
Although the lease agreement provided for the purchase of the building in 2024, in October 2021 the owner, a Family Promise supporter, approached the board with a generous offer: Would we purchase the building now at 1M below its appraised value with favorable financing terms? We agreed and are now seeking community support to expand our services while taking full advantage of this opportunity to secure a sustainable future.
Recognizing the growing and unpredictable needs for families facing homelessness, the A Journey Home Campaign will ensure Family Promise of Greater Phoenix remains strong and flexible so more homeless families can make their journey home.
In response to these needs, our Board of Directors has approved A Journey Home, a campaign to meet an increasing demand for our housing support services. With this campaign, Family Promise of Greater Phoenix will be able to:
HELP MORE FAMILIES STAY IN THEIR HOMES LONG-TERM
- Expand our Prevention Program to help more families avoid homelessness.
- by providing short-term financial assistance.
- Strengthen our Graduate Program to support at lease 80 newly independent families each year with resources and connections that allow them to become self sufficient and stay in housing long term.
- Accelerate our partnership with Central Arizona Shelter Services and other West Valley community agencies to serve 120+ families by providing shelter, affordable housing and wrap around services for children and their families.
- Double our Family Promise shelter space across the Valley.
- Partner with housing organizations in the valley to create more affordable housing opportunities for families.
- Complete the acquisition of our day center and central operations building.
- Adapt the space to accommodate the changing and growing needs of the families we serve.
