Our mission is to provide emergency shelter and social services to help families move from homelessness to employment, permanent housing, and self-sufficiency.

How We Work

Quite simply, we rescue families with children (and their pets) from homelessness. We give them the resources, time, and love to stabilize and move toward self-sufficiency. Families find us through an Internet search, referral, or the Valley’s Family Housing Hub.

1. Family Promise of
Greater Phoenix

When a family is facing homelessness,
we keep the entire family together. We help through prevention, diversion, and shelter. We walk alongside those in the Emergency Shelter Program for 60 days on their journey from homelessness to permanent housing. 

2. Day Center
During the day, our Family Day Centers in Glendale, Mesa, and Scottsdale become a family’s “home base”. Our social work team works with the families to meet their basic needs, connect with community resources, and accomplish their employment and housing goals.
3. Basic needs

During their stay at Family Promise, families receive meals, clothing, childcare assistance, computer access, bus passes, housing, education, and financial assistance.

4. Promise for pets

Pets are a part of the family and shouldn’t be in shelters separate from their human family. Our pet sanctuary allows families – and their pets – to stay together even after losing their homes.

5. Congregations provide temporary housing and hospitality

Over 7,500+ volunteers from 34 area faith congregations shelter families in their worship facilities each night. They provide family-style meals, activities, and private bedrooms for each family.

6. Shared Housing
Families progressing well in the shelter program may transition to shared housing on our campus. This allows them to live more independently with another family, while still under the care of Family Promise.
7. Housing
We help families secure permanent housing through rental properties. Once a family moves in, we set them up with basic supplies like cleaning products, bedding, and towels.
8. Success after
Family Promise
When a family graduates and moves into a permanent home, we continue working with them for up to 24 months. Our case management, emergency assistance, employment, parenting, and financial coaching helps families become self-sufficient and remain in stable housing.
