In the past five years, Family Promise has grown from serving 100 families annually from one location to nearly 170 families through four locations. However, homelessness in Maricopa County continues to rise dramatically—increasing by 219% in the West Valley and 129% in the East Valley in just three years. Many families are still sleeping in cars or on borrowed sofas because of lack of available services. This campaign responds to this growing need.

The Graduate Program provides up to 24 months of continued support after families move into permanent housing. We offer case management, emergency assistance, employment coaching, parenting resources, and financial education to help families become self-sufficient and maintain stable housing long-term.

• Keeps the entire family together, including their pets
• Partners with over 6,000 volunteers and 60+ faith congregations who provide shelter, meals, and support yearly
• Serves families through a comprehensive approach: prevention, emergency shelter, and long-term stability
• Provides services at about half the cost of typical family shelters, with over 75% of every gift going directly to work with homeless families

• Three step-up housing units providing shared living spaces for families in transition
• Three bridge housing units for families moving toward independence
• An office/access area with laundry facilities
• Additional affordable housing units to serve more families in need

The first Legacy Village is located in Glendale, Arizona, near 59th Avenue and Bethany Home Road, on land owned by the Disciples of Christ Church (also referred to as First Christian Church of the Discipulos de Cristo). This location was specifically chosen because it’s in ZIP code 85301, which has the highest eviction rate in Arizona.

The Glendale Legacy Village consists of six 640-square-foot two-bedroom units converted from shipping containers.

Legacy Village serves as step-up housing to help families transition from homelessness to stable living situations. It provides affordable temporary housing while families save money and prepare for permanent housing.

Families receive financial literacy education and staff support to ensure they’re saving money needed to transition to permanent, sustainable housing. The site includes laundry facilities, a playground, and a staff office.

Legacy Village is a key component of our expansion strategy across the Valley. It will allow us to provide more affordable housing options for families completing our shelter program, creating a fuller continuum of care from emergency services to stable, permanent housing solutions.

The campaign will accelerate our partnership with Central Arizona Shelter Services and other West Valley community agencies to serve 120+ families in the West Valley. We are also doubling our Family Promise shelter space across the entire Valley and partnering with housing organizations to create more affordable housing opportunities.

• Secure and renovate the Earll Drive building to serve as a central hub for operations and day center services, taking advantage of a $1M below-market purchase opportunity
• Double shelter capacity across the Valley by expanding partnerships and facilities to meet the 219% increase in West Valley and 129% increase in East Valley homelessness
• Launch a comprehensive Prevention and Diversion Program to help at-risk families avoid homelessness through rent assistance and early intervention services
• Strengthen the Graduate Program to support 80+ newly independent families annually with up to 2 years of post-graduation stability services
• Partner with housing organizations to create new affordable housing opportunities for low-income families transitioning out of homelessness
• Expand operational capacity to effectively deliver services through multiple locations across Greater Phoenix
