Gabrielle Lawrence

Gabrielle Lawrence, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist in private practice in the state of Arizona. From Columbia University, she received a BA in Music, a Masters in Early Learning and Development in 1973 and then her doctorate in Counseling Psychology. She is a member of the Arizona Psychological Association and the National Association For Play Therapy. She is also a clinical member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, a Registered Play Therapist and Play Therapy Supervisor, certified in EMDR and Somatic Experiencing and speiclises in PTSD and traumatic loss in children and adults. In 1990, she was one of the Founders of The New Song Center for Grieving children and their Families. Now part of Hospice of The Valley, The New Song Center program is widely spread in in Phoenix and has begun centers in Tucson. Dr Lawrence was a board member for Hospice of the Valley for Approximately six years and sat for six years on the Diocese of Phoenix Safe Environment Board. In 2009, she helped found Children’s Services Network, an accredited, ongoing, educational program to help educate and help professionals in the area of children’s mental health have new resources and stay informed.

Because of her deep concern for the emotional impact of homelessness on children, Dr. Lawrence joined the family promise Board of Directors 9 years ago. She has been involved in numerous areas Family Promise. Those include fundraising, marketing and working directly with the families by helping to host families at several of the churches involved in the family Promise program.

Dr. Lawrence has lectured and trained locally and nationally for schools, hospitals, churches, to professional in mental health, in corporations and community organizations concerning conflict resolution, management skills, mindfulness, how to handle traumatic loss, parenting, bereavement, domestic violence, attachment and bonding, child development, relationship management.

1. Expand Impact

Family homelessness in AZ is a growing problem. In order to serve more families we need to broaden our scope of services, improve our infrastructure and expand our reach.

2. Enhance Our Brand Recognition

We have a 25 year legacy of serving the community, strong relationships with our valuable Congregations and Volunteers, and a growing external awareness of our Mission through recent efforts to improve our marketing and public relations. Yet, Family Promise is still a fairly well kept secret and cities have begun to utilize funding to establish their own homeless programs instead of leveraging ours.

3. Elevate Service Excellence

We have established a flexible and adaptive service model. Opportunities exist to further improve our efficiency, strengthen our graduate connections, expand our employee’s skills and engagement and enhance relations with our constituents and communities.

4. Ensure Sustainability

Our current funding is primarily sourced from annual contributions and grants that require sustained efforts for renewal. Fundraising activities are extremely important, but divert resources from serving families and are currently higher (as a % of total expenses) than our peers. A window of opportunity exists to develop a meaningful Planned Giving program. This along with continued focus on providing low-cost service, Major Donor giving, our new Endowment Fund and the establishment of an Earned Income business enterprise can help reduce our dependence on annual contributions and grants, thereby improving our long-term sustainability.
