Family Promise - Greater Phoenix – Day Center / Volunteer Coordinator

This is one of twenty positions in the Make A Difference AmeriCorps program. This particular position is hosted by Family Promise.
Family Promise helps homeless families that demonstrate a desire to become self-sufficient. We accept only families with children and have a zero tolerance for substance abuse. We help families develop life skills, find housing, employment, and give encouragement while they transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency. Our success rate averages 75%. Family Promise is dedicated to keeping the family together. The Family Promise Day Center provides a safe place to be along with essential services such as case management, counseling, job resources, phone, fax, internet access, and transportation for interviews. Showers, laundry facilities, and locker storage units for family belongings are provided.

About Make A Difference: Make A Difference host a 20 member AmeriCorps team, made possible by a grant from our national affiliate, Hands on Network. The Make A Difference Citizen Action AmeriCorps program is one of the largest in the State of Arizona. AmeriCorps members dedicate a year of their lives to building a better future for the people in the communities they serve. Make A Difference is offering a unique opportunity for individuals to gain nonprofit and career experience while serving on the 2007 AmeriCorps team.

Position Overview: These are full time, 11 month positions beginning October 2007.

Minimum Qualifications:
· Applicants must be U.S. Citizens, nationals or lawful permanent residents and at least 18 years of age.
· Applicants must be able to commit to the 11 month time frame starting in October 2007.
· Applicants must have a minimum of a High School Diploma.
· Applicants must be computer literate, comfortable using Microsoft Office (Word & Excel primarily).
· Applicants must be drug free. A drug screening will be administered.

Hours & Schedule: 35 hours per week. This position has regular office hours of 9:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday. Evenings and Sundays are required as needed for community meetings and events.

Stipend & Benefits:
· A living allowance of $13,000, distributed in equal installments every two weeks during the term
· Basic health insurance
· Loan forbearance for federal student loans
· A $4,725 educational award upon completion of your service term (a minimum of 1700 hours is required))
· Childcare assistance (available for those who qualify)

Members will focus on the following during their term of service:
· Volunteer Engagement – member will provide training to 700 volunteers serving Family Promise and recruit new volunteers and new congregations for the program.
· Capacity building at Community Based Nonprofits – member will spend a year strengthening nonprofit services and volunteer infrastructure by creating volunteer training materials and presentations, planning special events, managing data and developing volunteer recognition.
· AmeriCorps Leadership Development – member will participate in training and ongoing professional and personal development opportunities.
· Running day-to-day activities at Family Promise center. Includes setting up activities for children, providing supplies to families and monitoring their progress.
